On November 23rd, the demo crew showed up, ⁠⠀
and the kitchen was gone.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
The new cabinets went into the kitchen next.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
I was a happy wife, woman, momma⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Everything was on time and moving along on point.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
And then a MAJOR hiccup ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
in my well-orchestrated plan.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
⁠⠀
The counter company came to measure one last time. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
And the plan: ten days to two weeks later, I would have my countertops and sinks looking gorgeous.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
But in making sure this fits well with ⁠⠀
the entire 2020 experience.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Instead of the typical turnaround, I learned it would be no less than four weeks when the countertops are ready to be placed.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Seriously, I thought the guy was pulling my leg.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
But they are four weeks behind, and COVID is the culprit.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Did I tell you that my four boys will be in town soon?⁠⠀
⁠⠀
LOL⁠⠀
⁠⠀
We've rented a place with a full kitchen.⁠⠀

We will have a fun visit and will have ⁠⠀
both houses to spend time together.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
⁠⠀
This project would have and should have been over 90 percent done before Christmas.⁠⠀

Are you known for a specific hat?⁠

I worked full time for years and enjoyed my position and the people I worked with. For years this was the perfect job for me. I learned, I grew, and enjoyed it. I realized how blessed and amazing this situation was.⁠
⁠
Then one day, it abruptly ended.⁠
⁠
I found myself with the hat in my hand. ⁠
Clinging tightly to it. ⁠
It was hard to let go.m⁠
⁠
Who am I if I no longer wear this hat?⁠
Who am I if I don’t need this hat any longer?⁠
⁠
I realize now how much of my own identity was tied to that specific hat. ⁠
It took me some time to be emotionally comfortable no longer wearing my work hat. I remember struggling with this abrupt 2020 change.⁠
⁠
I am no longer "this". then who am I?⁠
⁠
2020 has been a year that we have all experienced change whether. it was intended or not.⁠
⁠
Choices - moving on in appreciation or holding tight, not understanding that change.⁠
⁠
⁠
Change⁠
It can be a perfect thing.⁠
And it is.⁠
⁠
This is how I think about the pandemic.⁠
We each try to make sense of it all.⁠
⁠
In my mind, ⁠
This is how I think about it.⁠
⁠
God and the universe created a situation to kick our butts in a direction that maybe we needed to go? ⁠
Leaving some things behind and ⁠
picking up or choosing our next hat.⁠

It's been a busy week with a CCD "covid construction demo", not to mention a covid Thanksgiving. ⁠⠀

It was just Steve & I celebrating the holiday quarantine style.⁠⠀

A LOT of my time has been spent in our bedroom this past week. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Steve and I sleep, eat, watch tv in one room. We've moved the very basics from the kitchen onto a shelf sitting in our garden tub. We have a coffee maker, microwave, toaster, and a few necessities.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Staying away from the workmen and wearing a mask in my own home is my daily routine.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
We are wearing masks in our home and handing a mask to anyone entering our home. Mask up and keep your distance.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Seriously, what are you going to do but move forward the best you can.⁠⠀
⁠⠀

He is a trooper. ⁠⠀
Fred is staying with a friend who boards large dogs. ⁠⠀

she had a pituitary tumor removed⠀

when I was in sixth grade⠀

as well as vitamins.⠀

I remember mom⠀

prepping her pill line up.⠀

Yep, sounds like my experience these days.⠀

My mom would sweat ⠀

and I never knew why⠀

a paper towel would dab the “dew”⠀
It was more like a swift stream⠀
on her face and neckline⠀
⠀
The paper would stick to the most damp spot from the constant drip.⠀

And she would leave the paper towel⠀
sticking to her face. ⠀
⠀
She didn’t call them a flash⠀
I don’t remember her ever saying the word menopause or change⠀
⠀
But yes, I’ve experienced ⠀
the temperature rise and ⠀
flood of sweat running down my forehead.⠀
⠀

As mom aged she experienced dementia.⠀
⠀
There were good days and bad days ⠀
⠀
and dates and numbers that might disappear ⠀
And then show up again.⠀
⠀
⠀
Oh my hell - ⠀
⠀
⠀
cancer + medication = blank brain⠀
⠀
So I’ve officially become my mom⠀
⠀
I never thought⠀
⠀
I’d be taking a handful of prescribed pills⠀
Or⠀
that I would forget simple words and dates.⠀

Each day I sit in the drivers seat⠀

and steer myself through a⠀

Slow weaning off of the Dexamethasone.⠀

Current dosage is 1.5 milligrams per day.⠀
⠀
This doesn’t sound like a ton but I still feel and notice each ”.5” milligram that doesn't go into my body and that has previously push my energy level through the roof.⠀
⠀
Oh, how I miss that steroid induced energy flow. ⠀
⠀
I've noticed each time my body seems to adjust after a couple of days. So I give it a couple of weeks and take less.⠀
⠀
I'm seeing some swelling start to reduce. Not necessarily my face.⠀
⠀
It’s difficult to see or notice small changes when Steve & I are use to seeing it.⠀
⠀
But I have ya”ll to be the judge of that.⠀
⠀
No matter the situation...⠀
⠀
When times are tough, gratitude can feel out of reach. ⠀
⠀
For myself, I try to remember to focus on the positives in any situation. -- no matter how deep they may be buried. ⠀
⠀
Finding and focusing on a positive can help me feel less overwhelmed and taking small steps forward. ⠀
⠀

This isn’t an easy answer but ⠀

For myself, again I am considering what everything that I’ve experienced this year means.⠀

A few questions for you

May of 2016
I had a port placed.

I am thankful for it.
I am a complete fan of this device.

My port has been used every three weeks since that day and most months more than once time.

My port has held up well.

It has been a blessing.

After the last few months when I’ve gone in for my infusion my port has been difficult for the oncology nurse to draw blood 🩸 from.

If they can’t draw blood from the port then they won’t use it for your infusion.

That’s what happened at my oncology infusion appointment.

Nada - Nothing

The port just didn’t work.

They tried everything

After hours I had my blood drawn and infusion of Herceptin completed with an IV in my hand.

To figure out what the problem might be I went in to the Imaging department to look at the port more closely.

I laid flat on the imaging table. The tech used sonography to take the images of the port while he tried drawing my blood 🩸

The procedure was exactly as it had been for years.

The Tech drew the blood

It worked

I was shocked.

The only difference was that I was laying completely flat on the imaging table.

The tech took a few pictures and I was told there is nothing malfunctioning with the port.

My next appointment with oncology is Tuesday.

You better believe I will be laying flat when they try drawing blood 🩸 that day.
