My truth is it took me 2 weeks to finish trimming the tree this year. I didn't have the physical energy to get it done in one day.

I look forward to decorating my home each year, but I so often let my thoughts of perfection ruin my fun.
.
I adjusted my timeline this year. The house was a disaster those two weeks. And now that is done the mess has been cleared. We enjoyed our home and what it means to be "happy during the holidays."

Avoiding Holiday Burnout at Work!⁠

The holiday season is in full swing and 2020 staring me in the face. ⁠
⁠
I am finding it challenging to stay focused and motivated at work. I've been plugging away for the last 11 months, and now with winter break near, I, for one, want to close out 2019 with energy and productivity. Fatigue and burnout are in full effect, and I don't want to do a half-ass job on anything at work or home.⁠
⁠
Here are some strategies to stay on top of your game:⁠
⁠
1. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep⁠
2. Prioritize your lists⁠
3. Delegate if your load gets too heavy⁠
4. Avoid meeting overload⁠
5. Don’t go into “vacation mode” too early⁠
6. Work hard, play hard⁠
7. Take some time to de-clutter⁠

On a regular morning 🚙 commute, you never know what you will see.⁠

Yes, I pulled over and watched. And as the air-filled, the balloon to provide buoyancy to rise and float in the atmosphere. I couldn't help but think of my breath.⁠
⁠
I often take for granted the air that we breathe. When I do pay attention to my breath, it calms an anxious moment and brings me back to the present moment.⁠
⁠
Balloon 🎈breathing is a simple exercise that you can do anywhere. ⁠
⁠
Slow, deep breaths are one of the best ways to calm yourself when you are feeling anxious. Anxiety will cause a flight-or-fight mode with our body primed to handle a perceived threat. ⁠
⁠
This usually leads to fast, shallow breathing, rapid heartbeat, and tense muscles. ⁠
⁠
Practicing slow, deep breathing tells your body that it can calm down. As your breathing slows, the emotional feeling of anxiety or anger will lighten.⁠

It's that time of year: Holiday celebrations; endings; anticipation of new beginnings. Many of us start to reflect on the goals we had set for the passing year, and think about the goals we would like to achieve for the new.⁠
⁠
Goal setting helps you reach your full potential, to "level up" in your life. Achieving your goals brings greater self confidence and a sense of personal pride. ⁠
⁠
This past year I had a goal to organize ALL my photos. That's more than 30 years of photos that I organized and saved somewhere safe. This was a huge accomplishment, and made me feel so good to have that DONE.⁠
⁠
With the new year, I have a goal to go through all the art from my boys all through their school years. I found an app where I can snap a photo and keep them organized by child and year.⁠
⁠
These big projects are helping me to level up my own mental space- closing those mental "tabs" that have been open for a long time, and making space for new ideas and creativity.⁠

Do you ever get started on a project, full of enthusiasm, then slowly feel yourself losing motivation?

The work that you used to look forward to starts to feel like a chore.
You wonder why you’re even bothering.

You might give up on the project altogether.

Maybe you start taking up a hobby you’ve always wanted to do, but quit after a couple of weeks?

If you’re struggling with motivation, you’re not alone.

What are your hidden motivation killers?

Here a few ideas of what might be getting in your way.

Lack of purpose - You might realize that you really no longer care about what it is you are doing.
Unrealistic Goals - I have fallen into this trap more than a dozen times.

Trying to please everyone - I have to remind myself of this over and over again.

My friends have asked me how do you keep up with your blog and social media? My answer is that I absolutely love it. I learn from it every day, and it is cathartic in so many ways.
The following has helped me when I am feeling overwhelmed, and when I think of my purpose, the motivation is always there.

Maybe it can help you as well.

Identify a clear purpose. Make it something you really, genuinely care about.
Set measurable, achievable goals. Set yourself up to succeed with clear goals that you know you can meet.
Be ambitious. Don’t set goals too low – have faith in yourself and what you can achieve.
Think beyond yourself. Motivation only lasts so long when we’re focused solely on ourselves. Think about how your mission will help others.

Are you cooking the turkey this year? How far ahead to you hit the grocery store to prep for the big meal?

Are you hosting at your house or maybe you are traveling? Have you changed the oil and rotated the tires before going over the river and through the woods?

Do you really want to enjoy the festivities that are around the corner?

True confessions of this momma-- My boys will tell you that I have had experiences of being unhappy and truly a B I T C H during the holidays. Not proud of that, but true: overloaded and overwhelmed; perfection and unrealistic expectations were getting in my way.
In hindsight, I did not have my priorities aligned. I was not creating loving happy memories.

Now that I've gotten that off of my chest!

This is for all of us: momma with small kids all the way to the grandmas amongst.
THE season has arrived.

When you feel anxious, try starting here:

I know you have a list. If it isn't already on paper I suggest you write it down.

Do a sweep of your planning brain and write all the things down. I promise you will feel less stress if you get them out of your mind and in a safe place that you can go back to.
Who doesn't love crossing things off a To-Do List?

Now, stop. Add "Me Time" to go right along with all of your plans before it is too late.

Take no less than an hour each day of "Me Time"

Here are some ideas of what that might look like.

Call a Friend
Read a book
Get into nature
A cup of tea in front of the fireplace
Go to a yoga class

It doesn't matter what it is.
Just take care of yourself. Fill your cup, whatever it looks like.
