Putting the can in cancer

Got Hope?

October 10, 2018 by notoriousmbc Leave a Comment

Hope may just be the best word in the English language. It has synonyms like #expectation, #longing, #desire, #confidence, #trust, and #faith. We use it when we want to describe some of our deepest emotions, with phrases such as our only hope, no other hope, false hopes, and the saddest one of all — no more hope.

Hope can take so many different forms and meanings and even change from hour to hour, but I believe it is one thing all cancer patients and their loved ones can agree they need.  Hope won’t come easily for all of us. You more than likely will have your own way of dealing with your diagnosis and your own way of finding hope. For me it has been finding hope in moving forward.

I knew from the beginning for me to keep hope means to live my day to day life exactly like I was prior to having the word cancer in my life. Ok, so not exactly. Remembering all of things I had hoped to do prior to “D” day… Well those things, I do them all post “D” day without hesitation. Moving forward and living the life that I have always dreamed of helps me keep my hope. I choose happiness and I choose hope. I have found that when I choose to be happy I am also choosing to be hopeful. Yes, I have a terminal disease that will one day end my life. But we all have an appointment with death and I choose not to feel sorry for myself.

Thinking of all #cancer #warriors when the progression of the disease has taken its toll. The options of treatment have long past. What kind of hope do they find as they lay in hospice? Hope in no more pain? Hope of their families carrying on without the disease’s limitations no longer a part of their lives?

I am blessed to be doing well with my current treatment. I will have other treatment options when necessary. And in the meantime I am working on living my life to the fullest and working on keeping the hope for peace in my heart when my time comes.

This, is what late staged patients face.

Stage four - you will never be stage 5 or 6

4️⃣ is where you will always be.

Four is the final stage.

Cancer has now comprised your entire system.

And what you choose to do with this information is a personal choice

But then isn't this fitting with what shows up in life?

What would you personally choose?

I always appreciate your love & support

A coat of paint and a fresh perspective my term A coat of paint
and a fresh perspective

my term would be MIA

I’ve been distant
think of it as a forced step away.

a learning moment

When your brain swells... well all kinds of things go amok.

What happened?

One evening without warning

boom down I went and the right side of my body was gone.

It was numb and not responding

Earlier in January, I weened off the Dexamethasone and was no longer taking it .

My energy was very low. And during those winter months there was little to do but give my body the time to adjust.

An unscheduled MRI in March showed the swelling of the stubborn area of my brain was acting up. So back on the Dexamethasone I went.

Ooh I was pissed. Damnit

I adjusted my thought process

and moved on.

My balance and movement are still not 100%

I am taking 2mg of the Dexamethasone daily.

I would hope that if I upped the dose I would get 100% of the feeling back.

But I’ve chosen to compensate a little right now. I’m on my own schedule. I’ve got my reasoning

In early May, I’ll see my doctor and we plan to add the chemo Med that will pass the blood brain barrier.

And in the meantime—

I continue to work on small projects around my home that bring me joy.

Steve and I have completed our COVID vaccinations and we have a fun getaway planned for May.

We are headed to Massachusetts.

Our first time there.

We love getting off the beaten path. Finding the small and more unknown sighs and shops.

An antique, no matter how small is my favorite takeaway from this type of adventure.

Please make sure to share your favorite stops And don’t forget the food.

Thank you each for your constant love, patience, and understanding.

It takes a tribe to support us through the twists and turns of life.

Thank you for being mine.

I’m off of
steroid/Dexamethasone for the brain swelling as of January 4th.

I weaned off slowly.
It’s a process

And I felt “shitty” for a few weeks.

I even got a negative COVID-19 test,
just to make sure; because I was not feeling like myself.

And then suddenly without warning - surprise — I guess I turned the corner.

I’m crossing my fingers that the “dex” is finally out of my system.

My energy is much better and
my achy body improved.

Phew

I am noticing the swelling start to reduce.

I’m psyched

I am loving a double chin instead of a triple.

Cheers to life saving medical treatments
And their side effects.

I can always work on self love.
How about you?

A month will pass quickly and the seasons will change again. In Utah that usually means more snow.

Today I stopped by my favorite place to get a little “lift”

Happy Valentines Day May we all love ❤️ as mu Happy Valentines Day

May we all love ❤️ as much as we always need to be loved.

A gigantic shout out to the boy who shows me his heart everyday.

Do you have special plans this weekend?

My energy has been low the last couple of weeks. Then yesterday I had a thought and remember this — my last blood draw showed my red & white counts were low. I picked up some iron to add to my daily regimen. I let you know when I get the “pep back in my step”.

In the meantime love yourself and all those near and far.
